As a technical author, my job has changed from writing release notes in Word for software upgrades, to where I am now, authoring in xml, using a content management system to output to pdf, html, chm etc.

Publishing in xml has changed a lot in recent years, especially with the take up of the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) DTD, initially developed by IBM, and now managed by the OASIS DITA Technical Committee.
